at Sıraselviler Cad. No. 35, Beyoğlu  İstanbul at Taksim Square
this talk will be in English.

Joel Yoss, Artistic Director, Proyecto AMIL, Lima, shares his experience of founding and running this active alternative art space that commissions and exhibits new works by artists in Peru and from elsewhere. Yoss is American living between Lima and London and has a long history of supporting artists in the role of a gallerist and founded Proyecto AMIL in 2014. Recent exhibitions include a presentation of Horror Vacui, a solo show by the Peruvian artist based in Berlin, David Zink Yi; and Haciendo Contexto II, Collaborative Laboratory of Contemporary Art in Lima, was mentored by artist Martin Gustavsson and developed with nine artists from Peru and Sweden, and taking as a starting point the cultural syncretism in the ‘Cuzco School of Painting’. The personal and collaborative proposals of the participants put forth a reflection on colonialism and cultural cross-dressing in Peru from the sixteenth century onwards. Earlier this year Proyecto AMIL partnered with Protocinema to premier The Atelier by Hasan Özgür Top.

Proyecto AMILis a fluid, non-commercial contemporary art platform based in Lima. Founded by Juan Carlos Verme and Joel Yoss, it supports pioneering local and international projects while functioning as a space of encounter in which the public can engage with critical content. It has an experimental and collaborative public program that materializes in discussions, workshops, screenings, performances and publications. Proyecto AMIL has two residency programs; one in Peru and one in Switzerland.

Protocinema is an itinerant art organization realizing site-aware exhibitions in different spaces and places. We produce context-specific projects of the highest artistic quality that are accessible to everyone. Through our public programming, Protocinema evokes empathy towards understanding of difference, across regions. Founded by Mari Spirito in 2011, Protocinema is free of 'brick and mortar', sites vary to respond both to global concerns and changing conditions on the ground.
